Gnocchi with smoked paprika and Sea Salt Chili

Gnocchi is one of those ingredients that resonates with many people: quick to prepare, nice and soft on the inside and crispy on the outside when you bake it. In this dish, we combine those airy potato balls with the deep flavor of roasted paprika, smoked paprika and Zeeland Salt Chili. Since Zeeuwsche Zoute Chili is made partly with smoked salt, this version comes out extra well. The result is a savory, warming meal with a hint of smokiness and just enough spice. Ideal for a weeknight when you want to make something special without spending a long time in the kitchen.

Preparation

  1. Roasting peppers
    Preheat the oven to 200 °C. Cut the peppers into strips, place them on a baking sheet with some olive oil and a pinch of chili salt. Roast for 20-25 minutes, until they are soft and begin to color.
  2. Baking gnocchi
    Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the gnocchi and fry for 8-10 minutes until golden brown and slightly crispy. Stir gently occasionally.
  3. Onion, garlic and spices
    Add the red onion to the pan of gnocchi and sauté for 2 minutes. Then add the garlic and smoked paprika and fry for 1 more minute, until it begins to smell.
  4. Put everything together
    Add the roasted bell bell pepper to the pan and toss well. Then stir in the mascarpone (or ricotta) and let it melt for a while until creamy. Then add the Parmesan cheese and let it melt through the warm gnocchi while stirring.
  5. Seasoning
    Season with chili salt (start with a small amount and taste in between).
  6. Serve
    Serve immediately, with additional Parmesan cheese and some fresh parsley on top, if desired.
