Bees at the premises of Zeeuwsche Zoute

We have recently installed bee hives at our premises.
This initiative fits perfectly within our sustainable business practices and helps support the local bee population.
We not only want to contribute to biodiversity, but also create awareness about the importance of bees.
After all, bees play a crucial role in nature and agriculture by pollinating plants.

The importance of bees

Bees are essential for the pollination of many food crops and other plants.
Unfortunately, pollinating insects worldwide face problems such as pesticides, habitat loss and climate change.
In the Netherlands, their numbers have declined by 75% in recent years.
Our hives provide a safe place for the bees and with this we hope to improve the bee population on Schouwen-Duiveland.

Sustainability Initiative

We produce sea salt from Oosterschelde National Park in an environmentally friendly way.
For example, we do not use fossil fuels.
The addition of hives reinforces our commitment to sustainability.
The bees help pollinate local plants and flowers, contributing to biodiversity.

Do your part too

Want to do something for the bees yourself?
Then plant bee-friendly flowers such as lavender and sunflower and avoid using pesticides.
Also provide a bowl of water with some pebbles in it for bees to drink.
Grow a patch of your garden more wild or hang a bee hotel for bees to shelter in.
This is a simple way you can contribute to the well-being of bees in your own environment. Credit header: © iStock – K_Thalhofer
